Suicide and Depression

Suicide and depression have a lot to do with each other. They are probably the two most intertwined terms when thinking about either suicide or depression. Over 60 percent of all people who die by suicide suffer from major depression. If suicide includes alcoholics who are depressed, this figure rises to over 75 percent. Also, 90 percent of all people who die by suicide have a diagnosed psychiatric disorder at the time of their death.

  1. I think these statistics are important. They lead us to be more aware of the relationship between suicide and depression and how addiction also plays a role in this relationship as well. I find the statistics to be shockingly high as well. Awareness and education will hopefully change these statistics and decrease the amount of suicides per year.
