The Recession & Suicide

I found a article from cbs that states that the recession was linked to more than 10,000 suicides. I thought this was interesting because most people would never think that a recession would lead to suicide. The great recession that began in 2007 took more than a financial toll. New research suggests that the economic downturn could be linked with more than 10,000 suicides across North America and Europe. The study found that between 2008 and 2010, rates of suicide sky rocketed in the European Union, Canada and the United States. If you would like to read the whole article I have posted the link below.

  1. That’s really eye-opening! I had no idea. I’m actually not surprised that this recession has led to a number of suicides. I could understand the recession and its link to an increase in depression, perhaps?

  2. I found this article very interesting. It somewhat forces us to realize the psychological effects linked with unfortunate events such as a recession. Never thought that a recession would increase the suicide rate this much, so I too think this article is eye-opening!
