I figured since I will be using a lot of different terminology in my posts it would be beneficial to everyone to make a master post of important terms. I’ll probably add to this list along the way. It’s also important to remember that not everybody uses these definitions to define or identify themselves. Everyone has their own definition. If anyone has any questions please let me know!
Lesbian: women who are attracted to other women.
Gay: men who are attracted to other men. However, this term has been used by others within the community to describe themselves because it is an easier term to use.
Bisexual: individuals who are attracted to both men and women.
Transgender: individuals who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. This is also an umbrella term that encompasses other gender identities, such as those who identify as non-binary or agender.
Queer: an umbrella term for those that are not heterosexual or cisgender.
Intersex: individuals born with ambiguous genitalia that may or may not have undergone surgery to change it.
Asexual/Aromantic: individuals that do not experience sexual/romantic attraction.
Agender: lacking a gender or not identifying as a particular gender. Similar to non-binary, but not the same.
Cisgender: individuals who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.
Non-binary: individuals that identify outside of the gender binary of male and female.
Gender binary: the general type of gender system of masculine and feminine.
