Some of the warning signs of suicide can include:

  • Showing signs of depression, like ongoing sadness, withdrawal from others, losing interest in favorite activities, or trouble sleeping or eating
  • Talking about or showing an interest in death or dying
  • Engaging in dangerous or harmful activities, including reckless behavior, substance abuse, or self injury
  • Giving away favorite possessions and saying goodbye to people
  • Saying or expressing that they can’t handle things anymore
  • Making comments that things would be better without them

If a person is displaying these symptoms, talk to them about your concerns and get them help right away, such as from a counselor, doctor, or at the emergency room.

  1. If someone is making these comments do you automatically consider them of having suicide thoughts or when it becomes excessive? Personally I said the statement”I can not handle this or things anymore” but, i never had any suicide thoughts I was just overwhelmed during that time.

  2. This is a great thing to post! I feel as though a lot of people do not recognize the signs of suicide and that they see a lot of these as someone being “overdramatic” or simply kidding around, when it is definitely a serious issue. I think it is important a lot of the time to also talk to someone if you are concerned about the different symptoms they are showing. It’s best to understand what they are going through and not to do anything without their knowledge unless there is no other choice.
