In late 2016, 18-year-old Brandy Vela died by suicide in her home bedroom after shooting herself in front of her family. At the time, CNN reported that the teen, who lived in Texas, had been bullied relentlessly about her weight for years, but the harassment had grown worse around April of 2016. The sickest part of all is that after Brandy’s death, it became clear that the cyberbullying had not stopped. After Brandy’s death, Jackie, Brandy’s sister, told CNN, that “People would make up fake Facebook accounts and they would message her and she wouldn’t respond and they would still come at her. They would say really, really mean things like, ‘Why are you still here?’ They would call her fat and ugly. She was beautiful, absolutely beautiful; the only thing people could find to pick on her was her weight.” A few weeks later, KHOU reported that the fake accounts and cyber harassment hadn’t stopped. Within the last few days two people have been arrested in connection with Brandy’s death — Andres Arturo Villagomez and his girlfriend, Karinthya Sanchez Romero, were arrested on multiple counts, and both were held on bond.
I want to hear from you guys and hear your thoughts/reactions to this.
