15 famous DID movies

I looked up a few famous movies that have to deal with a character playing a roll with DID. Split wasn’t the only movie out there to make this disorder look violent. It’s sad that these disorders are looked at the wrong way, but for those of you into movies here are a few you could watch if you’re ever bored!

Facts on DID

After putting up videos of two people with DID but opposite alters, one with all nice personalities, and one with one mean and a few others who are a little testy. I was interested to see the different facts and statistics on DID. Let me know what you think!

  • Dissociation is present in all races but is more common in American children.
  • Females experience more childhood abuse than males at a ratio of 10:1 and thus more females suffer from DID.
  • However, more males who have been abused may experience pathological dissociation.
  • Dissociative identity disorder is typically caused by trauma occurring at less than nine years of age.
  • Early age of abuse onset predicts a greater degree of dissociation.
  • The average number of alternate personalities a person with DID has is between eight and 13, but there have been cases reported of more than 100 personalities within one individual.

Another statistic about dissociative identity disorder is that dissociative disorders were seen in 17.2% of a large inpatient group seeking treatment for substance abuse.

p.s this article also gives facts on the treatment that someone with DID goes through which is also pretty interesting

Ways to be there for someone with DID

I came across this article that I really liked that gives different ways to tell you how to be there for someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

A lot of people think it’s rude to ask about someone and their disorder, or they feel rude to make it known that they know. In fact, talking to someone about their disorder, specially someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder, makes them feel really comfortable and more proud of who they are.

Jessica who was diagnosed with DID at age six with 5 personalities

I love love loved this video over other videos that I’ve blogged before !

Jessica is a young women who has all males as her personalities but what she calls her ‘alters’. The way she talks about her personalities is so fascinating and also genuine.

One thing ill say that truly caught my attention, and then I wont say anymore so I don’t give the video away, is Jessica also has a boyfriend who is truly accepting of Jess and her DID. The part that caught my attention was the short story her boyfriend told. At one point Jess’s boyfriend had to hang out with Jessica’s ‘alters’ for three weeks because her ‘alters’ were too powerful to get her to come back. That was a really scary time for her boyfriend but Jess now has her personalities under control with medication 🙂

In this video, Jess creates a really fun way to introduce her alters!
